Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course accredited or certified?

No, this course is not accredited or certified. However, it does follow the syllabus recommended by the MHRA and the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA) and meets the EU expectations under the Artificial Optical Radiation Regulations (AOR). You’ll receive a certificate of attendance upon completion.

Is this training required for compliance?

In the UK, regulatory authorities are increasingly requiring that clinic staff have laser/IPL safety training. This course also meets the requirements under the EU AORD legislation. In Ireland, the UK, and the EU, it is necessary to provide staff with laser and IPL safety training. This is also considered best practice by insurers and laser safety professionals. The course supports your compliance efforts, particularly during audits and inspections, by ensuring your team has been trained to an appropriate safety standard.

Who delivers the training?

This course is created and delivered by a registered Laser Protection Adviser (LPA) with clinical and regulatory experience in Laser/IPL safety in Ireland, the UK and the EU. It is tailored specifically for aesthetic practitioners, not surgical or industrial users.

How long will I have access to the course?

You’ll have 30 days of access from the date of enrolment. This helps ensure you complete the training in a timely way and retain what you’ve learned, rather than coming back months later when it’s no longer fresh.

Do I need prior laser or IPL experience to take this course?

No. The course is suitable for both beginners and experienced professionals. Whether you’re just getting started or want to refresh your knowledge, the step-by-step structure helps build understanding at your own pace.

Can my whole team take this course?

Absolutely, we have had a number of clinics train their entire team with this course. You’ll need to enrol each practitioner individually, as certificates are issued per person. If you’re enrolling multiple staff or need a clinic-wide training solution, please contact us to discuss options.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes, once you complete all sections of the course and pass each knowledge check, you’ll be able to download a certificate of attendance. This can be kept on file as part of your Laser/IPL safety training records.

What is “Core of Knowledge” training?

Core of Knowledge (COK) training is recommended under UK and Irish laser safety guidance. It provides the foundational understanding of how Laser/IPL systems work, the risks involved, and how to operate safely in clinical environments.

If you need a Core of Knowledge course, enrol in our Expert-Approved Aesthetic Laser & IPL Safety COK, which meets the requirements of the Artificial Optical Radiation Directive (AORD) and is specifically required for compliance in the UK.

Our Aesthetic COK is approved by the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA), which is the gold standard for laser safety education.

Only Core of Knowledge courses can be approved by the British Medical Laser Association.

This is a shorter syllabus for staff who don’t operate laser and IPL devices.

What This Course Doesn’t Cover

This course is focused on safety, not clinical technique or hands-on training. It does not cover device-specific protocols, skin typing, or treatment settings. Those must come from manufacturer training or clinical qualifications.

The right training saves time, avoids risks, and meets compliance requirements.
