I enjoyed the course. I was informative. The laser physics is heavy and a challenge to retain but important to have an understanding of.
I found the end of section and start of the next section summaries very helpful to reiterate the main points.

What is “Core of Knowledge” training, and why does it matter?

Core of Knowledge (COK) training is recommended under UK and Irish laser safety guidance. It provides the foundational understanding of how Laser systems work, the risks involved, and how to operate safely in clinical environments.

Only Core of Knowledge courses can be approved by the British Medical Laser Association

What This Course Doesn’t Cover

This course is focused on safety, not clinical technique or hands-on training. It does not cover device-specific protocols, skin typing, or treatment settings. Those must come from manufacturer training or clinical qualifications.

About Your Trainer

Dr Josette Galligan, PhD, CEng, is a registered Laser Protection Adviser (RPA2000, UK) with over 25 years’ experience supporting major teaching hospitals in laser safety compliance. She developed Ireland’s first national laser safety eCourse on HSELand and has delivered specialist training based on the Core of Knowledge curriculum, to which she contributed. Her guidance is trusted by both public health systems and private aesthetic clinics across Ireland and the UK.

“I created this training after feedback from a physiotherapist I worked with who didn’t see the point of attending a half day training where the focus was on medical lasers, and  where there would be sessions on plume and other hazards that weren’t relevant to their laser and how it was used”
