About Course
Appropriate laser safety training for those using lasers is a requirement of the Health and Safety legislation, and this course will provide you with that essential training. This course follows the Core of Knowledge syllabus recommended for clinical laser users.
What Will You Learn?
- Physics of lasers,
- Risks involved when using Laser Therapy lasers.
- Responsibilities,
- Safety practices that you must implement to keep you and your patients safe.
Syllabus
There are nine modules in this course, comprising of three parts and each part broken down into three sections. Each section comprises a number of videos, which are accessible sequentially, as each builds on the previous content. At the end of each section, you will be required to complete short knowledge check questions before moving to the next section. At the end of each part there is an optional review of the entire training that Part , before you move onto the next part of the course.
Part 1: Physics, laser generation & emission characteristics, laser-tissue interactions
In part one we are going to look at the physics of light and lasers generation, laser properties, and emission characteristics including laser-tissue interaction, which give lasers their therapeutic capabilities but also their potential to be hazardous.
Part 2: Lasers hazards, standards and the engineering controls
In part two we’re going to look at those hazards and how they can cause injury, and focus on the standards that have been devised and engineered into lasers.
Part 3: Legislation, administration controls, PPE
In part three we’re going to look at the health and safety legislation that applies to lasers, and the administration controls that must be put in place to ensure that you’re working in a safe environment, and that you are using your laser safely on your patients.
Certificate
You will receive a certificate of completion, which is generally equivalent to 3 CPD points. To receive your certificate of completion you must complete each section of the course and complete a short post course feedback questionnaire.
