About Course
For Aesthetic Clinic Staff Who Need Safety Awareness
But Don’t Operate the Laser or IPL Device
If your clinic uses laser or IPL systems, all staff must understand the risks involved even if they don’t carry out the treatments themselves. Under the Artificial Optical Radiation Directive (AORD), employers are legally responsible for ensuring that all workers exposed to laser or IPL light receive appropriate training.
This self-paced awareness course is designed specifically for non-operators: clinic owners, front-of-house staff, assistants, and those working in or around treatment rooms who need to be aware of the risks.

FAQ
Who is this course designed for?
This course is ideal for aesthetic clinic staff who work in clinics that provide laser and IPL treatments. It’s suitable for both beginners and those refreshing their knowledge.
Do I receive certification upon completion?
Once you complete all three modules, answer the knowledge check questions, and submit the short feedback form, you’ll receive your Certificate of Attendance, which you can use to show your commitment to safety and compliance.
How long does the course take to complete?
Most participants complete the course in just 1 hour. It’s fully self-paced, with video modules and quick knowledge check questions. You can pause, resume, and revisit content whenever you like.
Is this course recognised outside the EU?
This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Artificial Optical Radiation Directive (AORD) and is specifically required for compliance in the UK. If you’re based outside the EU, recognition will depend on your local regulations. We recommend checking with your national authority or regulator. Still unsure? You can ask about your specific region in the ‘Q&A’ tab, located in the same menu as this ‘Course Info’ section.
Do I need laser or IPL experience to take this course?
No prior experience is required. This training provides a solid foundation in laser/IPL safety and is suitable for all levels of clinical experience.
Is this the same as the Core of Knowledge training I’ve heard is required in the UK?
No. This is a shorter syllabus for staff who don’t operate laser and IPL devices. If you need a Core of Knowledge course, enrol in our Expert-Approved Aesthetic Laser & IPL Safety COK, which meets the requirements of the AORD and is specifically required for compliance in the UK. It’s also approved by the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA), which is the gold standard for laser safety education.
Will it be too technical or hard to follow? I don’t have a physics background.
Not at all. This course was designed with beginners in mind. We cover the physics only to the extent needed to understand safety. Each topic is explained in plain, professional language, and you can re-watch any part at your own pace.
