I am running a laser safety training course designed for low level laser therapy (LLLT) users on Monday the 28th of February. It will be held online and will run from 6:30 pm to 10 pm, with two 15 minute comfort breaks.
Appropriate laser safety training is a requirement of SI176 (2010) and this course will provide that essential training for Physiotherapist, Chiropractors and Veterinarians using low level laser therapy as part of their practice. The course will follow the ‘Core of Knowledge’ syllabus approved by the British Medical Laser Association, and the Society for Radiological Protection.
COURSE CONTENT:
• Basic principles of laser generation and review of LLLT technology.
• Potential dangers of lasers to the eyes from accidental exposure.
• Laser Safety, legislation requirements and the laser safety programme. This section will also cover carrying out your risk assessment and documenting the resulting laser safety processes into your local rules, which are a requirement of the legislation.
ABOUT YOUR TRAINER: Dr Josette Galligan, PhD, CEng, is a registered Laser Protection Adviser with RPA2000 (UK) and has twenty years’ experience as the appointed Laser Protection Adviser for a number of large academic teaching Hospitals. She developed the first online laser safety eCourse in Ireland hosted on HSELand which was widely used Nationally and has run specialised Laser Safety Authorised User Courses, following the Core of Knowledge curriculum, which she contributed to.
